The Cardinal Tetra is one of the most sought-after freshwater community fish, prized for its brilliant neon red and blue stripes and graceful schooling behavior. Closely related to the Neon Tetra, the Cardinal Tetra is slightly larger, often hardier, and just as peaceful—making it a perfect addition to both beginner and advanced aquariums.

Cardinal Tetras thrive in groups of six or more, creating stunning flashes of color as they swim in unison through the upper and middle levels of the tank. They are well-suited for community aquariums with other small, peaceful fish and larger non-aggressive invertebrates. While adult shrimp are generally safe, tiny shrimp or fry may be eaten.

Being tank-raised, these fish adapt well to a variety of aquarium setups, but they look and feel their best in conditions that mimic their natural South American waters: soft, slightly acidic water enriched with tannins and leaf litter.
